Modeling and Understanding MIMO Propagation in Tunnels

چکیده
This paper first presents an application of the modal theory for interpreting experimental results of the electromagnetic field variation along a tunnel. The transmitting frequency is assumed to be high enough so that the tunnel behaves as an oversized waveguide. Then, for a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output channel, theoretical results of the channel capacity are given. To explain the decrease of the capacity at large distance from the transmitter, even by assuming a constant signal to noise ratio, an approach based on the calculation of the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix in a reference scenario is described. Index Terms — MIMO, propagation, information theory, modal theory, measurements.

Modeling of MIMO propagation in Tunnels
Wireless communication draws the attention of various and this is because, it increases in data throughput and also the link range without the increased transmit power or additional bandwidth. The explanation and/or prediction of the inside distribution field such tunnels are excited by the electric antenna which is essential for deployment of wireless communication system. Primary objective of...
متن کاملPropagation in Subway Tunnels: SISO and MIMO Channel Characterization
This paper first describes experimental results on the characterization of the propagation in subway tunnels. A first set of experiments have been carried out in Paris subway to determine the path loss, the long term and short term fading and the masking effect produced by a train. Then a wide band analysis has been performed both for a SISO (Single Input Single Output) and for a MIMO (Multiple...
متن کاملOn the Importance of the MIMO Channel Correlation in Underground Railway Tunnels
This paper deals with MIMO channel modeling according to the correlation level in underground railway tunnels for various antenna configurations for the transmitting and receiving arrays. MIMO channel matrices have been computed with a 3D ray-tracing based software at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz in two different tunnel environments: 1) a 1-track empty tunnel with a square cross section, 2) a 1-track tu...

متن کاملMIMO Wireless Channel Modeling and Experimental Characterization
While coding and signal processing are key elements to successful implementation of a MIMO system, the communication channel represents a major component that determines system performance. A considerable volume of work has been performed to characterize communication channels for general wireless applications. However, because MIMO systems operate at an unprecedented level of complexity to exp...
